ClaimStat

The potential for a malpractice suit is an undeniable threat for today's healthcare professionals. According to the Health Coalition on Liability and Access, on any given day, there are 120,000 pending malpractice claims, and one in every six doctors has a claim brought against him or her annually. Without reliable loss data, the development of successful claims management practices, and an effective risk management program that will help to prevent claims, is difficult. Moreover, alternative risk financing options are not an option for healthcare entities lacking reliable claims and loss data.

The mainstay of any successful risk and claims management program is access to loss history data that can be searched, manipulated, graphed, analyzed, and stored and retrieved easily. Healthcare organizations cannot rely on carriers to provide this information. Typically, carriers cannot even produce electronic loss runs. That's why Skyview created ClaimStat™.

An effective claims management application must have two basic abilities:

  1. Ease of Use and Productivity - ClaimStat™, developed using a relational database product called DataEase©, was created with both in mind. End users need only to understand their organization's claims process, and not programming, in order to enter, archive, and manipulate data, and create custom trending and loss history reports.
  2. Scalability - DataEase© allows users to customize ClaimStat™ as a company grows, its data expands, and its needs evolve.

Hardware, Software and System Requirements

ClaimStat™ does not require software distribution to individual computers, and allows management of upgrades at the server level. At this time, ClaimStat™ is offered as a client-hosted solution, though Skyview does offer application support.

Hardware, software, and system requirements are as follows:

Software: DataEase© for Windows (latest version) - User version (one license for each user to be purchased separately by user) and Administrator Version (one licensed copy to be provided by BSA Healthcare)

The DataEase© software required to run ClaimStat™ is available in two versions:

  • An administrator version offering user add-ons - This version of DataEase© allows an organization's designated super user to maintain and manipulate data, run standard reports, create custom reports, and customize the ClaimStat™ design.
  • The user version (executive package) - Individual licenses may be purchased independent of the administrator version and installed on each user's workstation. The user version permits end users to access the database but not change the basic format or design of ClaimStat™. End users may enter data and make changes to the records only if they have been assigned read-write privileges by the administrator. DataEase© also offers off-site access via a web-based version that allows users and administrator real-time access and administrative privileges to networked data.

Operating System Software - Windows XP Professional© and above, Windows 98© and above, or Windows NT 4© (SP6) and above

CPU Speed - 550 MHz or faster

Memory - Minimum of 256 MB highly recommended

Monitor Resolution - Capable of 1024 x 768 resolution (1280 x 1024 highly recommended)

Hard Drive - Minimum of 8 GB for main database storage

CD-ROM Drive - Required for software installation
